Oklahoma is expected to receive more than $5 billion as part of Biden’s trillion-dollar infrastructure bill.
The money will mostly go to roads and bridges but some of the funding will be directed toward public transportation, support for electric vehicles, cyber-attack prevention, airports and broadband internet access.
Many health professionals are excited about the last part. Broadband infrastructure can help them treat Oklahomans in the most rural parts of the state.
The White House said Oklahoma should expect a minimum of $100 million used to provide internet access.
Health experts believe access will help improve education and mental health. It also opens up those areas to telehealth visits.
"Telehealth is huge for mental health, especially for those people who need to be seen two, three, four times a week sometimes if they are in crisis mode," said Dr. David Chansolme with Integris Health.
The White House says Oklahoma will receive this funding over the next five years.
