As part of the city of Geneva’s 2021-22 sanitary sewer improvement program, three West State Street (IL Route 38) manholes are being replaced that will impact traffic along the corridor in mid-November.
Work is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 8 on two manholes at State and Third streets that will require shifting State Street lane closures, limited access to Third Street, and reduced parking near the intersection for more than a week, weather permitting.
Operations will then start Wednesday, Nov. 10, at State Street and Grant Avenue, where traffic lanes in each direction will be closed for nearly a week. A fourth project located at Richards and Union streets should get under way Thursday, Nov. 11.
Construction and concrete curing at all sites are anticipated to be completed by Tuesday, Nov. 16, but the timelines are all weather-dependent. A detailed schedule, project maps and more information are available on the city’s sanitary improvements web page. The public can subscribe for road construction alerts via Notify Me.
In addition to the manhole replacements, the city has contracted out to televise and line various sections of sanitary and storm sewers in Geneva. Start dates have not been determined, but residents can find maps and the latest information on the city’s website. The lining projects, which should not greatly impact adjacent residents, are necessary to prevent infiltration and to keep sanitary and sewer lines in proper working condition.
All sewer lining work is expected to be finished by February 2022, weather permitting.
