Colorado beat out Texas, Illinois and Utah to land the U.S. headquarters of a rapidly growing New Zealand technology company, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade announced Wednesday.

FileInvite is a software as a service provider that has developed a platform that makes it easier for businesses to share and collect documents with customers, who can then complete, digitally sign and upload documents without the back and forth of email exchanges, which remain the most common method of document sharing.

Entrepreneur James Sampson founded the Auckland company in 2015. About half of its customers are located in the U.S., with financial service providers, law firms, schools and human resource departments among the most common users of the platform.

FileInvite received approval for $1.67 million in job growth incentive tax credits from the Colorado Economic Development Commission in April in return for creating 144 jobs in Denver over the next eight years. The company, given the codename Project Files, said the jobs would come with an average annual wage of $102,049.

Most of the jobs coming to Denver are expected to be in sales, with additional positions in marketing and management. The company has available openings posted on its careers web page and plans to use a hybrid model with remote work most days and a weekly team gathering. It is in the process of selecting office space.

“In order to support our growth, we knew we needed boots on the ground in the U.S. After careful consideration, we chose Colorado, primarily based on connectivity for flights and access to talent,” said Ky Hacker, vice president of operations for FileInvite in a separate release.

FileInvite recently raised $3.6 million to support its U.S. expansion and is in the middle of another round of fundraising.

New Zealand and Australia are two countries Colorado has successfully targeted for direct foreign investments, despite the geographic distance.
