A “Me” day for all employees to guarantee that more will be done for others in the future. This practice, described by Dave Rouls, is an example of how people are valued at Slalom LLC, a “modern consulting firm” focused on strategy, technology and business transformation, which ranked No. 5 among midsize companies in the 2021 Detroit Free Press Top Workplaces competition.

“This day was an extra day for our employees to take off and focus on their well-being and provide a platform for them to share their experience,” said Rouls, the general manager of Slalom’s Detroit office, who was describing one of the employee-friendly actions taken by Slalom in 2020, which contributed to the company’s success in 2021.
And when Rouls talks about a successful 2021 he makes it clear that the success extends to employees, clients and the community.
“Our people have come through for our client’s week after week all across Michigan, elevating the delivery and meaning of our work,” Rouls said. “We also wanted to make sure we were doing as much as we could when it came to our community. When working with our clients we really wanted to know: ‘How can we help?’ By leading with empathy, we were able to give back to Detroit and our community in a time of great need by offering hundreds of thousands of dollars in pro-bono solutions.”
Rouls proudly reports that his office nearly doubled its business in 2021 and he expressed the same level of excitement about his company’s plans to contribute to Michigan in the future.
“We are blending the old ways with very creative new ways of making this a very special home for hundreds of people in Michigan,” Rouls said. “Our culture and supportive nature attracts the absolute best consultants, technologists and business-minded experts to help Michigan companies solve their most challenging transformations.
"And all of this experience of helping our community and our clients during COVID has inspired us to craft a Michigan Stewardship Commitment. By 2030, Slalom Detroit will help transform Michigan businesses to help put more than 25,000 people to work. Through innovation and creativity, we will elevate the equity and quality of life of over 250,000 people. We are committed to this statement and holding ourselves accountable for making this a reality.”
