Lowe's Scorching Bat Continues To Impact World Series - University of Maryland Athletics - UMTerps.com

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Brandon Lowe's go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning of game four was just another example of his clutch hitting in the World Series. Facing a 2-2 count against Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez, Lowe went deep to opposite field for the third time in the series to put the Rays ahead 5-4. In game two, Lowe hit two blasts - also to opposite field - making him the first Terrapin to homer in the World Series since 1942. Thanks in part to three runs driven in by Lowe and a walk-off miracle by Brett Phillips, the Rays took game four by a score of 8-7 and evened the World Series at two games apiece.
 
Maryland fans faced a moral dilemma when Dodgers reliever Adam Kolarek (Maryland '10) faced Lowe for a high stakes at-bat in the eighth inning. Kolarek had just made his World Series debut two batters before, walking the first batter he faced, but getting Austin Meadows to pop out prior to facing Lowe. The left-hander got Lowe to strike out swinging - in just three pitches - and concluded his first World Series appearance with a solid performance to keep the Dodgers leading by one. The matchup was the first ever World Series at-bat between two Terps.
 
Despite not being in mid-season form in this year's Fall Classic, all three of Lowe's World Series hits have exited the ballpark. The 2019 All-Star and AL Rookie of the Year finalist flourished in 2020, leading the Rays in all major offensive statistics during the regular season.  
 
A 2015 D1Baseball.com Second Team All-American, Lowe was a career .338 hitter with 10 home runs and 30 doubles as a Terp. He was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2015 and helped Maryland to consecutive Super Regional appearances in 2014 and 2015. Lowe was drafted in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Rays and made his MLB debut on Aug. 5, 2018.
