A Saturday NFL game is disorienting enough before you have to trawl the internet to figure out how to watch it.
But hey, at least in the case of this weekend's San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals matchup, a real underdog service called "Amazon Prime" — which people apparently pay for to watch movies and shows and ship things that they order online — will be getting much-needed business and attention.
Yes, that's right: Unless you reside in the Bay Area or Phoenix, in which case you can technically watch the Niners and Cardinals play on NBC Bay Area or Fox-10, respectively, you'll have no choice but to stream the NFC West bout on either Prime Video or Twitch.
Are you a 49ers fan who's long lived in a different city, but you already pay for NFL Network/NFL Sunday Ticket? Well that's a darn shame, but what's a few more dollars to a company in need like Amazon? You might love Prime Video and keep it afterwards! The NFL is doing its part to raise awareness for this small business with engaging tweets like the one below, which for some reason is getting some awfully rude responses:
The teams are pumped about the history-making event too.
Amazon signed a deal with the NFL through 2022 that allows them to have exclusive rights to at least one game per season, and the 49ers and Cardinals are the lucky winners in 2020. By December 2021, imagine how many more customers Prime Video might have. Heck, via welcomed promotions like this one, it's entirely possible Amazon could become a monopoly run by the richest man on earth. Just kidding, that's obviously hyperbole. In all sincerity, best of luck to what sounds like a scrappy new company for thinking outside the box — hope it works out.
