The Montreal Impact have undergone plenty of changes on the pitch in the last 12 months under head coach Thierry Henry and there will soon be a significant switch off the field as well.

The club confirmed in a statement on Friday that they "will undergo a major identity change" in 2021.

"Now that the 2020 season is over in all competitions, the club confirms that it will undergo a major identity change that will be unveiled in 2021," the full statement read. "We invite you to follow our platforms for more information."

The Montreal Impact name has existed since 1992 when it was formed for the American Professional Soccer League following the dissolution of the Montreal Supra franchise. That legacy was then carried forward when the club joined MLS in 2012.

The news ends a busy week for the Impact. While their 2020 season came to a close with an aggregate defeat to Club Olimpia in the Concacaf Champions League on Tuesday, the club made big moves looking ahead to 2021 with the signings of defender Kamal Miller and attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic.
