Boston Globe business columnist Shirley Leung joined Boston Public Radio on Friday to discuss the effect the coronavirus will have on Boston businesses.
“It’s going to have an impact on the hotels because the way the economy makes money is the hotel nights," she said. "Often you bring the convention to town and then the visitors come, they stay in the hotels, they eat in the restaurants. So it's going to have an impact on hotels and restaurants and other discretionary spending here."
Boston's Chinatown is currently feeling harsh dips in business due to coronavirus fears. “I’ve got to think numbers are still down because in the intervening weeks, the fear of coronavirus has grown," Leung said.
There is no public health reason why you shouldn't be eating at a Chinatown restaurant, she added. "You should go eat in Chinatown, whether it’s in Boston or in Quincy.”
