Global Hemp Day, an international virtual event that features scientists, entrepreneurs, companies and products leading the hemp industry, added Longmont-based HGH Seed Inc., doing business as High Grade Hemp Seed, to its sponsors. It’s one of the steps that the hemp genetic firm is taking to build up its name in the global market.

South American company CannaTech and California-based The Arcview Group are co-hosting the 10 a.m. Aug. 26 event. Global Hemp Day projects attendance of more than 1,000 participants from more than 30 countries.

There will be a seven-hour program with about 20 virtual sessions and 40 expert presenters, covering the hemp industry value chain. Tickets for Global Hemp Day are $179.

“We’re anticipating it’s going to be a really fantastic day where we’ve got exceptional expertise, scientists, entrepreneurs, companies around the world, and it really is going to be future-focused on what’s next for the hemp industry,” said Trish Thomas, CEO of Denver-based Digital Dovetail LLC, a company working with HGH Seed for the event.

Thomas said that the event will attract farmers, hemp entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and “all kinds of folks who are around the edges of the hemp industry, supporting the people who are actually growing and processing the crop.”

Global Hemp Day comes shortly after HGH Seed stepped into the European market. HGH Seeds entered a February partnership with Switzerland-based Swiss Cannabinoid SAGL to develop new hemp strains and created the Matterhorn CBG strain.

In late June, all of its strains became available for sale as seeds in Europe and so far have contributed to 2% of overall sales, said Jonathan Mackintosh, director of marketing for HGH Seed. But HGH Seed anticipates sales will grow in late winter and early spring.

The next continent that the Longmont company is eyeing is South America. By opening up channels to different landscapes, HGH Seed can sell beyond the U.S. farming season.

“We’re starting to look at these seasonal approaches to help augment our economic picture so that we’re not just a seasonal company. We want to be a year-round influence worldwide,” Mackintosh said.
