Firefighters work on the roof of a building at 53 Turnbell Street after an interior fire ignited the roof structure. There were no reported injuries.
SPRINGFIELD — A fire started in heavy excavation equipment parked inside a large industrial building Friday and ignited the roof, causing some $20,000 in damages, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to G.E.G. Construction at 53 Turnbull St. at about 2:30 p.m. to find parts of the roof structure burning, Springfield Fire Commissioner Bernard Calvi said at the scene.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
The roof and some equipment was damaged, but there were no reported injuries to employees of the company or to firefighters.
