A Mobile-based steel fabrication and machining company plans a $5.5 million expansion that will allow it to hire 50 new employees over the next few years.
Family-owned Myer Marine Services will add 36,000 square feet to its manufacturing facility in west Mobile and will purchase “multiple adjacent buildings and properties” as well, according to information released Wednesday by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. A newly acquired 12,000 square-foot building will be made into the new home of the company’s engineering department, sales team and administration.
David Rodgers, vice president for economic development for the Chamber, said the project would receive a non-educational sales and use tax abatement estimated at $131,000 during construction. Net benefits were estimated at $41.3 million over the next 20 years.
“With this project, we will be able to continue to diversify our services offered, increase our size and scope of projects, and branch into new target markets,” said Bradley Myer, the company’s vice president of business development. He cited an increasing customer base in dredging and construction as a driving force in the company’s growth.
“With the expansion of our manufacturing facility and our growing workforce of skilled craftsmen in both shop- and field-based operations, we are able to offer our customers a true turn-key solution for large scale projects and across a broad spectrum of industries,” said Brandon Myer, vice-president of operations. “The future is very bright for Myer Marine Services.”
According to information provided by the Chamber, the company currently employs 121 people and the majority of its customers are in the Southeast and along the Atlantic Coast.
