Brand Aims to Be Catalyst for Good by Driving Environmental, Equitable and Economical Change for Culinary and Beverage Industries
New York, NY (August 23, 2021) – Dough Wines, created by Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners (DVWP) and marking the first-ever winery partnership for the James Beard Foundation, has named award-winning Magrino PR as its agency of record to spearhead media relations within the US market.
Launched in October 2020, Dough Wines’ mission is to “rise to the occasion” by creating positive systemic change for restaurant recovery and ethical operation, diversity and equality in the culinary arts and beverage spaces, and food sustainability. This is accomplished through an annual donation to the James Beard Foundation’s initiatives supporting such causes. In 2021, Dough Wines is proud to contribute $30,000 in support of these programs. Additionally, Dough Wines is a MAPP (Mentorship, Advocacy, Pandemic relief, and the Power of women) Changemaker level partner and has donated $20,000 toward this cause.
“Dough Wines was created with a purpose to make a positive impact,” says Kate McManus, Vice President of Marketing at Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners. “We are so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in less than a year and the support we’ve been able to provide for to the James Beard Foundation for critical programs, such as the Open for Good campaign which provides resources to help restaurants rebuild and be stronger, more equitable, and more sustainable. Through our work with Magrino PR, we look forward to continuing our support of systemic changes within the food and beverage industries.”
In collaboration with an advisory panel of renowned chefs, award-winning Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen and Assistant Winemaker Lee Morse craft a diverse range of wines meant to be accessible and food-friendly. Prominent culinary figures such as Chef Bill Telepan and Chef Lee Anne Wong consulted on the wine styles to best match with America’s diverse food culture, while Bridenhagen and Morse work across acclaimed vineyards in Oregon and California’s North Coast to source the best fruit for creating these balanced wines.
Dough Wines debuted with four core wines, available nationwide: a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon from California’s North Coast, as well as a Pinot Noir from Oregon. The flagship wines are line-priced at $18.99 for the whites and $21.99 for the reds. In addition, Bridenhagen and Morse also craft limited-quantity and terroir-specific wines, ranging from traditional method sparkling wines from Willamette Valley to a complex and age-worthy Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Priced from $25 to $75, these wines are available on Dough Wines’ website, doughwines.com, and sold individually or in curated sets that offer a snapshot of a region, style, or variety.
To further share Dough Wines’ purpose of doing good while making good, the inaugural class of Dough Wines’ Council of Ambassadors was announced in May 2021. Featuring four culinary and advocacy leaders whose missions align with Dough’s, these ambassadors serve as spokespeople to further conversations around environmental, ethical, and economical change within the food and beverage industries. The 2021 ambassadors include Bryan Ford of New Orleans, an award-winning bread baker, author, and host of The Artisan’s Kitchen on Magnolia Network; Greg Wade of Chicago, Head Baker at Publican Quality Bread; Jennifer Bushman of San Francisco, a sustainable aquaculture advocate and creator of healthy, regenerative seafood brand Sea Pantry; and Joanna James of New York, women’s equality activist and founder of MAPP, filmmaker and director of A Fine Line, and CEO of independent production company Zoel Productions.
As a concept, Dough Wines was created to be a bridge between the culinary arts and beverage industries, recognizing that simple, high-quality ingredients and a catalyst can create something greater. With every meal shared, glass raised, and conversation had, it is an opportunity to create positive social and environmental progress.
