A Canadian firm is expected to spend up to $61 million to establish a production facility at the former IBM manufacturing complex in Endicott.

Governor Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced Ubiquity Solar plans to repurpose 800,000 square feet of vacant space at the Huron campus.

Hochul said the company will establish solar photovoltaic manufacturing operations at the old IBM site.

According to a news release from the governor's office, Ubiquity Solar "expects to create up to 150 highly skilled jobs in the region."

The announcement indicated site development is already underway. It did not say when that work began.

Hochul said "the company expects to be fully operational" in Endicott by the end of 2022.

The company intends to produce solar cells for aerospace customers and for the power generation market.

The state will provide up to $3 million in grants to Ubiquity Solar tied to the number of jobs the company creates.
