Athletics Demonstrates the Power of Dragons During 24 Hours of Impact - Drexel Dragons

PHILADELPHIA - Student-athletes were the beneficiaries as Drexel Athletics set the pace and dominated the leaderboard during the University's fifth annual 24 Hours of Impact. Overall, alumni, parents, fans, friends, student-athletes, coaches and staff made a total of 2,298 gifts and raised over $136,000 to benefit the Dragons' athletic programs.

"On behalf of all of our student-athletes, coaches and professional staff, thank you to all of the generous supporters who believe in the power of Drexel Athletics and helped to make this year's 24 Hours of Impact a huge success," Director of Athletics Dr. Eric Zillmer said.

Accounting for nearly 60 percent of the overall donations, athletics placed six teams in the top 10 and finished with 10 of the top 19 campus organizations in the University-wide rankings. The wrestling program led the way for the fifth consecutive year with 567 donations and raised over $27,000. Posting its best year ever, men's soccer finished second overall with 455 donations and nearly $23,000. Club ice hockey placed third with 339 donations and women's lacrosse was fourth with 317 gifts. Women's basketball finished ninth with 116 donations and field hockey rounded out the top 10 with 111 gifts.

Other teams in the top 20 included women's soccer (12th), men's swimming and diving (16th), men's rowing (18th) and general athletics (19th). In addition to wrestling and men's soccer, the teams with the most dollars raised to support their program were club ice hockey with over $15,000, golf with more than $14,000 and men's basketball with over $10,000.

"This has been an unusual year, but the generosity and ongoing commitment of our donors ensures that Drexel Athletics continues to develop student-athletes who lead and achieve success in competition, the classroom and in their careers beyond campus," Kerry DiBlasio, assistant vice president of development said.

Drexel teams further demonstrated their competitiveness during the 24 Hours of Impact by winning seven of the day's challenges which helped secure additional funds for their programs. Wrestling captured three of these hourly challenges, including student donors, parent donors and alumni donors. Men's soccer, women's lacrosse, ice hockey and men's rowing also captured challenge victories.
