As Tropical Storm Laura makes its way through the Gulf of Mexico, it could cause rain in Central Indiana, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Andrew White said the storm, which is expected to make landfall between Louisiana and Texas by Thursday, will likely cause "quite a bit of rain" on Friday and Saturday.
White said it is too early to predict exactly when or how much rain will come to central Indiana, but the tropical storm is expected to strengthen as it moves over the Gulf of Mexico.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center reported an increasing risk of rainfall, wind impacts and a storm surge, possibly life-threatening flooding from rising water moving inland, along portions of the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Throughout the week, NWS said, a more clear picture of Tropical Storm Laura's impact and intensity will be available.
Just in front of Tropical Storm Laura is Hurricane Marco, which is expected to impact the U.S. Gulf coast Monday with maximum winds of 75 mph, according to the NWS.
White said Hurricane Marco, however, is not likely to impact Central Indiana weather as it is expected to travel west once it makes landfall, while Tropical Storm Laura is expected to turn north and then northeast.
