The Davey Tree Expert Co. has acquired Chippers Inc. of Woodstock, Vt., the Kent-based company announced Tuesday, March 2.
The Vermont company will now be Chippers, a Davey company, according to a news release.
Terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.
Chippers employs more than 90 workers and serves northern New England with offices in Woodstock, and in Enfield and Meredith in New Hampshire. Founded in 1986, the company focuses on arboriculture, turf and soil care, gardening, land enhancement, forestry and maple syrup, the release said.
Chippers president and CEO Mundy Wilson Piper said she was drawn to Davey, in part, because it is employee-owned. The company, founded in 1880, was owned and managed by the Davey family until 1979, when employees took a stake in the business through an ESOP. With more than 11,000 workers, Davey currently is the ninth-largest employee-owned company in the country, according to the National Center for Employee Ownership.
"It's crucial to me that all those on staff today and in the future will have the opportunity to become employee owners and their jobs will remain local," Piper said in a statement. "Just as importantly, our clients will work with the same Chippers team members they have come to know and rely on during our 35 years in business."
Piper will remain with Chippers as a consultant for six months, and the organizational structure of the company will stay much the same, the release said. Jason Eaton in sales and Travis Vickerson in operations will continue to have lead roles.
