NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - North Platte’s Municipal Light and Water is sending a warning to homeowners in regards to a Colorado company scheming people out of their money.
Chris Holley is the water protection specialist for Municipal Light and Water and has worked for the water department for five years.
“We by far have the best water you can get here in Nebraska,” Holley said. “In fact, we won three of the Best Tasting Water Awards for three years in a row. It’s not only good tasting water, but it’s very safe to drink.”
And just when he thought he’d seen about everything, a flier was brought to his attention.
“We pump from 300 to 400 foot deep,” said Holley. “The ground levels up top here have nothing to do where we pump from, so that’s deceptive right there in itself.”
The company is mailing fliers advertising they will provide water testing for free. But Holly isn’t buying it.
“They’re coming out and doing what they’re calling a water test when actually what they are doing is putting some drops of liquid into our very safe water and the minerals, we already know are in the water that are good for you, are revealing themselves through these droplets,” Holley said. “We don’t know what they’re putting in it, so they are scaring people into buying an over priced water treatment system is what they are doing.”
In fact, Holley says you can buy the exact set up and have it installed for a 1/4 of the cost.
“The fella that came in and talked to me told me he said it was around $9,000 that they were trying to get out of that water system and if you had good credit you could do it for $100 a month,” said Holley. “It’s not a bad thing to have reverse osmosis and if you want that, what we would suggest is that you contact somebody locally here and get it for a reasonable price.”
The city department said they do extensive testing throughout the year. If customers want their water tested or have questions or concerns they encourage them to call the office.
