The Peck Company of South Burlington, one of Vermont’s few publicly traded companies, this month purchased a company called iSun Energy LLC and has changed its name to iSun.
The former Peck has grown in Vermont for 50 years, providing electrical and data contracting services. It now provides solar power for government, commercial, retail, academic and data-center projects. Peck’s acquisition of iSun was announced Jan. 5.
Peck had changed its name from Peck Electric Co. to Peck Company in the summer of 2019 after becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of a company called Jensyn Acquisition Group in Freehold, New Jersey, and became the fifth publicly traded company based in Vermont. It went public in June 2019.
The Montreal-based iSun opened a Burlington office in November 2018. Then, the company made solar-panel-covered canopies that are used as carports or gazebos.
The new iSun company said in a prepared release that the group is expanding in order to capitalize on the Biden administration’s plan to invest heavily in public infrastructure in renewable energy and electric mobility infrastructure, including half a million electric vehicle charging stations.
Sass Peress, who founded iSun, will be chief innovation and experience officer at the company, said Jeffrey Peck, CEO and chairman of the board. Jeffrey Peck did not immediately return calls Tuesday for comment about the company’s size and any possible changes prompted by the acquisition.
He said in a January 2020 interview that the company, one of the larger players nationally, had about 100 employees. In May 2019, he told investors that the then-Peck was the largest solar contractor in the Northeast, with about $27 million in revenues. The company says it has built more than 200 megawatts of solar projects, enough to power 38,000 homes.
